Textured Front Post Dishcloth Crochet Pattern

Textured Front Post Dishcloth Crochet Pattern

If you haven’t noticed already, I am obsessed with making home decor items. This month I have provided patterns for a coaster, a basket, and now let’s make a dishcloth together! I make this textured front post dishcloth often as a gift for my friends and for use in my own kitchen and bathroom. I like that the texture gives character to the appearance of the dishcloth in addition to a bit of scrubbing/ exfoliating action. This design would look great with any ombre or solid color cotton yarn.

Let’s Get Started!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Materials
    • 4.5 mm crochet hook
    • Yarn needle/ darning needle
    • Lily Sugar n’ Cream- Key Lime Pie Ombre
  • Stitches used: chain, double crochet, single crochet, front post double crochet
    • Please check out this link if you need help with front post double crochet. I’m sorry to say I have not filled in the tutorial section of my website just yet!
  • Other Techniques: none
  • Abbreviations:
    • ch- chain
    • dc- double crochet
    • fpdc- front post double crochet
    • st- stitch

Instructions: Textured Front Post Dishcloth

Row 1: Ch 31. In third chain from hook, dc. Dc in each ch until end of row. (29 st)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first st. *Fpdc in next st. Sc in next st.* Repeat pattern between ** until end of row, ending with a sc. (29 st)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Dc in each st until end of row. (29 st)

Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Fpdc around first dc chain of row. *Sc in the next st. Fpdc in next st.* Repeat pattern between ** until end of row, ending with a fpdc. (29 st)

Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Dc in each st until end of row. (29 st)

Repeat Rows 2-5 three times.

Row 18: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first st. *Fpdc in next st. Sc in next st.* Repeat pattern between ** until end of row, ending with a sc. (29 st)

Edging:

I did two rows of single crochet around the edge of the square, putting 3 sc in each corner to keep the edges from curling. Fasten off, weave in the ends.

What is the repeat of this pattern? Just so I can change the size. Thanks

Love this stitch. I am a beginner and was wondering if this is thick enough to use as a potholder?

Hi Danou, I recommend making 2 of these dishcloths and then stitching them together. By itself, this won’t be thick enough to work as a potholder. Hope this helps!
